What coverages
should I have?
Pick the category that best describes your operation. We'll walk through the coverages we recommend, what each one actually does, and why it matters — in plain English, no jargon.
For Sports Programs
You're running the activity — schedules, refs, registrations, parents, kids on a field. Your insurance has to cover the people in the game, the people on the sideline, and the volunteers helping you run it.
General Liability
Pays for bodily injury or property damage you cause to a third party — a parent slips, a passerby gets hit by a foul ball, your tent damages a venue's floor.
Foundational. Almost every facility, school, or city park you rent will require it as a condition of using the space.
Athletic Participant Liability
Extends General Liability to participant-on-participant injuries during scheduled, sanctioned activities — coach, official, athlete, or volunteer.
Standard GL excludes the very thing youth sports does. Without this, a player-on-player collision claim is on you, not the carrier.
Excess Liability
Sits on top of your GL and pays out after the underlying limits are exhausted — typically up to $5M.
One catastrophic injury can blow through a $1M limit. Excess is cheap protection against the worst-day scenario.
Abuse & Molestation
Coverage for claims alleging sexual or physical abuse — defense costs and settlements — with required background-check protocols.
Increasingly mandated by leagues, schools, and parents. It's also the single most expensive uninsured claim a youth program can face.
Accident Medical Expense (AME)
Pays a participant's medical bills for an injury sustained in your activity — first dollar, no fault required.
Keeps medical bills from turning into liability claims. Parents are far less likely to sue when bills are already being paid.
Hired & Non-Owned Auto
Covers liability when a volunteer, coach, or parent drives their own vehicle on your behalf — to a tournament, to pick up gear.
Your General Liability does not cover anything that happens behind the wheel. This closes that gap without owning a fleet.
Liquor Liability (optional)
Covers liability arising from serving alcohol — fundraisers, awards banquets, end-of-season parties.
Critical anywhere alcohol is sold or served. Most venue contracts require it if alcohol is in the picture.
Risk management, stacked.

Youth Soccer Alliance
Previous carrier non-renewed mid-season after a single roster expansion. They needed full GL with Athletic Participant Liability, $1M/$2M Abuse & Molestation, and Excess to $5M — bound before the next tournament weekend.
Submitted the NAYS quick app on a Wednesday afternoon. Quotes came back on screen in under two minutes, the board reviewed overnight, and Matterhorn bound the program first thing Thursday morning — three days before kick-off.
Saved the season. The alliance kept their tournament weekend, signed up 220 additional players the following quarter, and renewed at 12% under what the incumbent had quoted.
